Challenge: "The Netherlands has an overcrowded road network, the increasing traffic problem affects not only the economy, it is also a problem in the healthcare. Which actions and solutions could contribute to descale or cope with the problem?"
This was the admission challenge of the former UX bootcamp school at Codaisseur. I had one week time to come up with an app proposal, using several UX methods, eventually using fictional data.
RESEARCH/ UX/ UI
RESEARCH
I started the challenge by doing some desktop research to get familiar with the matter and collect insights. Due to to time restrictions I did not conduct interviews or surveys and based my research on several research methods already conducted by other reliable parties, such as:
- Survey that ANWB conducted with 17.000 responses
- Qualitative research conducted by Radboud University

The outcome of my research and the preliminary conclusion was presented in a research poster.
PERSONA & EMPATHY MAP
For the purpose of this challenge I selected one typical car driver, making his persona.
Much like a user persona, an empathy map can represent a group of users, such as a customer segment.
Visualising user attitudes and behaviours in an empathy map helps to get a deep understanding of end users.
GENERATING IDEAS: THE CRAZY 8
In order to select the best ideas I did the “crazy 8”. It is a method where you sketch some (sometimes weird) ideas on a piece of A4 paper folded into 8 rectangles in a short time frame.

The Crazy 8 (Google): “It is a fast sketching exercise that challenges people to sketch eight distinct ideas in eight minutes. The goal is to push beyond your first idea, frequently the least innovative, and to generate a wide variety of solutions to your challenge.”

THE APP IDEATION
In the concept I came up with 2 different kinds of functionality. Besides the usual functions such as a routeplanner, etc (drive functions), the app would have several “relaxing” functions to better cope with the stress when inevitable being stock in the traffic.
WIREFRAME & PROTOTYPE:
